Both Drs. Marcella and Sid Sockwell are graduates of the UNC School of Dentistry Class of 1989. While in their last year of dental school, both were selected to teach undergraduate students in the labs and in the clinics while the students were treating patients. Both also have served as adjunct professors since graduating. Dr. Sid still enjoys teaching there on a part-time basis. Dr. Marcella and Dr. Sid volunteer for a variety of dental mission endeavors, both locally and internationally. They enjoy traveling and spending time with their two sons, Sam (22) and Maxton (21).

Dr. Marcella Sockwell

Dr. Marcella Clifton Sockwell is a VA native but has lived in NC most of her life. She is really happy to return to Chapel Hill.

Dr. Marcella was an honor graduate in Dental Hygiene and practiced in Charlotte before earning her DDS degree from the UNC School of Dentistry. She received the prestigious Southeastern Academy of Prosthodontics Award in Dentistry in 1989.

After graduation Dr. Marcella practiced with different specialists in the state and opened her own practice in Raleigh. She was an Associate Professor at the UNC School of Dentistry while in private practice. After practicing in Raleigh, Chapel Hill and having two sons, she joined her husband in his dental practice in Oxford until returning to Chapel Hill July 2014 to practice at their present location.

Dr. Sid Sockwell

Dr. Sid Sockwell is pleased to return to Chapel Hill and the farm he grew up on, Tooth Acres Ranch. After almost 30 years of dentistry and raising a family in the small town of Oxford, NC, it was time to return home. He enjoys working with the cows, fixing fences and doing general farm labor. Sid's father, a long time UNC Dental School faculty member and his mother, former Chapel Hill School Board President, oversee and advise activities and the farm from their current home in Carol Woods.

While attending Guilford College, Dr. Sid worked in the cafeteria, was a student counselor, a tour guide, a residence advisor, co-captain of the varsity soccer team and was elected dorm president. Following graduation, he spent almost 3 years hitchhiking and working in many countries around the world. After graduation from UNC Dental School 1989, he worked with his father (also a dentist) in Chapel Hill.

While the farm presents a constant amount of work, Dr. Sid and Dr. Marcella are happy to be back in Chapel Hill. They really enjoy the interesting and diverse family of patients they now care for in Chapel Hill.
